Personal Development

At Stowmarket High School we provide a wide number of rich and varied experiences and opportunities through our curriculum and our co-curriculum to develop talents, interests, and an individual’s cultural capital.
We ensure that our careers and employability provision is of outstanding quality and our Student Leadership programme and Mental Health Peer Mentor programme enables our students to engage, inspire and achieve.
We recognise that it is important that our students know how to keep themselves safe and how to care for both their mental and physical wellbeing whilst they also develop personal traits, and virtues that will motivate and guide our students to flourish in their community and in society, with confidence and resilience.
We work hard to prepare students for their future as responsible citizens, willing to make a positive contribution to society with an appreciation of diversity and a respect for British Values and equality.
This focus on Personal Development and Character Education are all promoted through our Personal Development Programme. Here we promote the five key areas of development, Careers , Character and Community, Equity, Wellbeing (Oasis) and Cultural Capital.
Assembly Programme
Every morning we celebrate our 5 key personal development strands through assemblies, discussions and quizzes. Each activity links to the theme of that week from one of the following five areas:
- Cultural Capital
- Careers
- Character and Community
- Equity
- Wellbeing
As part of our tutor programme we have ‘Be Ready’ mornings, where tutors help support students with ensuring they have the full equipment and uniform to enter their week fully prepared.
We also have two ‘Read Together’ mornings where tutors read a fiction book, offered by the English department with their class in a read along style.
